NIV WORSHIP EDITION BIBLE – International Bible Society (Biblica)
Posted on November 20th, 2010
We provide Bibles in our meetings for everyone who attends – so that those who are new to the Bible have an easier time finding the right passage (all the Bibles are identical and have the same page numbering). We also sing a number of our worship songs directly from the Bible, so it is helpful to have everyone using the same version. We recognize that there are a number of excellent English translations available (NKJV, NASB, NEV, ESV, etc.), but we use this Bible for convenience. You can learn more about this version and edition from the publisher here. -
THE CHRISTIAN LIFE HYMNAL by Hendrickson
Posted on November 20th, 2010
Our worship is a mix of songs that we sing directly from the Bible (Psalms or some of the “songs” in Isaiah) and classic hymns. We’ve found this particular hymnal to be very easy to use in our worship. Click here or here or here to read more about it from the publisher (index of songs, sample pages, etc.). -
Learning from Psalm 73 – Asaph’s Struggles
Posted on November 15th, 2010
Psalm 73 - “For I envied the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” (Psalm 73:3)“When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.” (vv. 16-17)
“Those who are far from you will perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you. But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” (Psalm 73:27-28)
In this Psalm, God talks about the “pure in heart,” as well as the “arrogant” and the “wicked.” To man, the wicked may seem to have no troubles. Those who are faithful feel that they have many struggles. Sometimes this seems unfair, even to believers.

Learning from 1 Corinthians 13 – Love Keeps No Record of Wrongs
Posted on October 14th, 2010
“Love . . . keeps no record of wrongs.” – 1 Corinthians 13:5 (NIV)“Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil…” (KJV)
The Greek phrase Paul employed here can mean “to think about evil” or “to keep an accounting of evils or wrongs.” That is why the KJV translates it a little differently than most modern versions. The original text encompasses both ideas, because the main point is dwelling on the other person’s faults. A person living in love will not keep a mental record of another church member’s wrongdoings, nor will they constantly focus on evil things, contemplating how to get revenge or how they would like to lecture the other person.

Learning from 1 Corinthians 13 – Love Rejoices with the Truth
Posted on September 14th, 2010
1 Corinthians 13:6 – “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” (NIV)“Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth” (KJV)
This is perhaps the most neglected phrase in 1 Corinthians 13. When people think about the great “love chapter” from Paul’s letters, they usually think of the nice, pleasant character traits listed in 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. It is very rare to hear a sermon that talks about “love” in the sense of rejoicing in truth or recoiling from wrongdoing.

Learning from 1 Peter – How Shepherds Should Care for the Flocks
Posted on August 7th, 2010
1 Peter 5:1-4 - “To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.”This passage provides guidelines for pastors and ministers.

Learning from Hebrews 11 – True Faith
Posted on July 20th, 2010
In Hebrews 11:1 it says, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
Sometimes faith means trusting God for something that we cannot see yet in the material world around us, something that even goes against what we see with our eyes and hear with our hears. Many people, after praying in faith, conclude by declaring that they completely trusts God to fulfill the promises – thanking God for something before it even happens.
Many people think of faith merely in terms of a certain feeling, or a strong religious opinion that people hold for a period of time. True faith, by contrast, interacts with the prophetic realm. Faith from eternity connects us to God’s unfolding plan or project of salvation, so faith keeps in step with what God is doing at the moment. Human feelings and opinions (the things that unbelievers think of as “faith”) are merely temporary and do not represent eternal truth.

Learning from 1 Chronicles – God’s Promise to David
Posted on July 13th, 2010
1 Chronicles 17:1-4 – After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you.”
That night the word of God came to Nathan, saying: “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in…”
This chapter teaches us important lessons about God’s nature, about our relationship with the Lord, and about how we should pray.
